Prof. Ioannou will be a keynote speaker at CSR conf in Cyprus

Join me! I have been invited to speak at a CSR conference in Cyprus, organised by the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development (DG EPCD) of the Republic of Cyprus. My keynote talk is titled "From CSR to Sustainability –“Value Creation in the Long-Run”" and I will also later participate in a panel that will discuss the “Business contribution to the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030”.

You can find here below some background to the conference, a link to the full agenda and a link for online registration. Please consider joining if of interest!

Conference Abstract: In 2011, the European Commission defined CSR as the “responsibility of enterprises for their impact on society”. Abiding by the laws, integrating social, environmental, ethical, consumer and human rights concerns into their business strategy and operations, helps companies become socially responsible, as per EC Communication COM (2011)681. Moving forward in 2014, with the introduction of Directive 2014/95/EU, large undertakings and groups in Europe are requested to disclose non-financial information from 2017 onwards. In the meantime, more and more businesses are committed to CSR worldwide, by establishing CSR strategies and practices that help them be better prepared to face risks, thus contributing to the enhancement of their reputation, their attractiveness to investors and consequently, their competitiveness. CSR is becoming a standard business practice for successful companies all around the world. What makes CSR that import- ant? What is CSR about and what is not? What are the new obligations as per EU Directive? How can all companies, irrespective of their legal obligations, apply and benefit from CSR? How can the business world contribute to Global Sustainability?

My Research

I am a strategy scholar whose research focuses on Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). More specifically, I seek to understand whether, how, and the extent to which the modern business organization contributes towards building a sustainable future. My academic work evolves around two main themes: a) understanding how investment analysts, and the public equity markets, perceive, evaluate and react to corporate engagement with, and integration of, environmental and social issues into strategy and b) understanding the multiple factors (e.g. institutional, regulatory, behavioural) that may affect, drive or hinder, the corporate decision to adopt environmentally and socially responsible strategies.
